With a view to capitalise the domestic tourism market, Gujarat Tourism will promote the upcoming total solar eclipse which will take place on July 22, 2009. The state is looking at promoting Surat for viewing the total solar eclipse, a once in a lifetime opportunity among end consumers. For the same, it intends to create public awareness in cities of Gujarat and other places like Mumbai, Pune and Nashik.
Speaking with TravelBiz Monitor, Kishore Rao, Secretary Tourism, Gujarat said, “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that we are offering end consumers. With this event, we are looking at attracting tourists from cities of Gujarat and also neighbouring states to come and visit Surat to view the total solar eclipse. We intend to market this event through the travel trade and also through advertisements in specific target media channels.” The state will disseminate information on the total solar eclipse event on its website – gujarattourism.com.
Furthermore, the state also plans to organise an annual travel mart in December this year. |
