The new Terminal 3 at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in New Delhi yesterday received the first Airbus 380 of Emirates Airline from Dubai. Speaking to the media on this occasion, Andrew Harrison, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said, “By receiving the world’s biggest airplane, we are able to send across the message that the new terminal at the airport is ready and capable of handling an A380 aircraft.” He informed that the new terminal will begin commercial operations of all international flights from July 28, 2010, followed by domestic airlines like Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines etc. from August 27, 2010.
He added that the trial had been going on at the new terminal since November last year and is now fully ready. “It’s an incredible accomplishment achieved in record time which has no parallels anywhere in the world. Today, we have the sixth largest airport in the world,” stated Harrison.
