IMC’s Tourism Committee holds seminar to highlight tourism prospects of Rwanda to travel trade industry

Indian Merchants Chamber’s (IMC) Tourism Committee late last week held a seminar in Mumbai to highlight tourism prospects of Rwanda in East Africa to the travel trade industry. The seminar also highlighted the trade and investment opportunities offered by Rwanda. Speaking about the tourism potential of the destination, Clarence Fernandes, Co-Chairman, Tourism and Hospitality Committee, IMC said, “Rwanda has immense tourism potential which is yet untapped and we have witnessed interest from the Indian tourists to visit the destination. Rwanda received close to 17,111 Indian tourists in the year 2008 and through this seminar we intend to create destination awareness about the country and its varied offerings.” IMC's tourism committee intends to create destination awareness for untapped destination like Ethiopia etc. in the coming months.

IMC is looking at promoting Rwanda as a niche destination for MICE travellers, leisure and also travellers who are interested in Adventure Tourism. It is looking at promoting itself as a dual destination by clubbing Rwanda with Kenya or Tanzania. “The East African Community which comprises five countries - Republics of Burundi, Kenya
