India may require an association of MICE operators in a couple of years

Due to recession, the leisure travel segment has taken a back seat, giving the business or MICE segment more importance. Earlier, there were few MICE operators, but today most travel companies in Indian cities offer MICE services. As a result the industry is now feeling the need of a filter to segregate the quality standards of services provided.

Sushil Wadhwa, Managing Director & CEO, Platinum Incentives & Events (Pvt.) Ltd. said, “Today, every travel company is offering MICE services in India which has resulted into market fragmentation. There is a need for a filter to define the operators according to the services provided. Currently, India is at a nascent stage with regards to MICE travel business, but with the potential it shows, in the next two to three years, there might be a need for an association specifically dedicated for MICE operators.”

India currently has India Convention and Promotion Bureau (ICPB), which is a nodal and marketing body supported by Ministry of Tourism (MoT) for the Meetings and Conventions sector.
