Indian Inbound: Exploring new horizons

In ‘Monitoring Trends – 2009’, the last of the two part special cover story, Krupa Vora analyses the Indian Inbound and domestic sector based on an exclusive countrywide poll conducted by TravelBiz Monitor, to chart out trends for the year and ones which will emerge in the next couple of years

This line used by Lonely Planet India 2007 edition best describes the experiences that India has to offer to international, as well as domestic travellers. The country has varied and unlimited offerings that even a lifetime would perhaps seem less to explore in totality. Talking about the travel and tourism industry of India, it is now a proven fact that branding India through the ‘Incredible India’ campaign highlighted the destination on the global tourism map and that the industry is considered to be a fair revenue generator for the country. Post the campaign, India has done ‘incredibly’ well in terms of foreign tourist arrivals, foreign exchange earnings and tourism receipts. Even during turbulent times India continues to be a hot spot along with China showing positive growth as a sought-after tourist destination.
