According to an IANS report, Indian Railways is mulling over a plan to attract foreign tourists by adding exclusive luxury coaches to all its major trains. As per an official from the Indian Railways, the Public Amenities Committee (PAC) recently recommended that exclusive ‘specially designed coaches’ be added to trains for the benefit of foreign tourists. On the Committee’s proposal, many domestic travellers feel that the ability to pay, and not the nationality, should determine who is taken on board. However, the Committee’s recommendations are not final. The proposal will be examined and feasibility assessed by the railway board and minister after which the decision will be taken. In order to attract foreign travellers, the select coaches will be designed to have more leg room, better designed seats and toilets, wider sleeping berths and aesthetic interiors. The windows too will be larger to give a better view of the landscape. The Indian Railways are keen on tapping 'luxury' travel by foreigners by extending better facilities through exclusive coaches. |
