India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is conducting bus tours between Kolkata and districts like Nadia, Howrah, Hooghly and North 24-Parganas, in view of the approaching Durga Puja season. ITDC is resuming the city tour service, which was discontinued in 2002, in order to facilitate pandal-hopping and tourism. “Not only pandal visitors of the districts but also tourists who come to the country will be lured to the region. They usually tour Delhi, Agra, Himachal Pradesh and Jaipur, giving Kolkata a miss. Now our plan is to lure foreigners to the East and North East,” said Sultan Ahmed, Union Minister of State for Tourism, while speaking at the two-day road show conducted recently by Ministry of Tourism (MoT) in Kolkata to showcase the East and the North East. A foreign tourist enquiry service unit also became operational at India Tourism Office, earlier this week.
According to the report by Sonalee M in kolkatamirror.com, the bus tour programme will help international tourists to know more about the various facets of Kolkata. |
