Jammu & Kashmir Tourism to develop ropeway to Patnitop

Also to promote rock climbing at Kud

The Directorate of Tourism, Government of Jammu and Kashmir is in the process to develop a ropeway project on Public-Private-Participation (PPP) model from Kud to Patnitop, state's famous tourist destination. The project will also be handled by Patnitop Development Authority (PDA). The Directorate is also in search of an agency to provide technical assistance for this mega project. Apart from this, the Directorate has identified Kud to promote rock climbing, for which the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering; Government of India will provide technical assistance. The Institute has a camp office at Kud.

Speaking exclusively with TravelBiz Monitor, Sarita Chauhan, Director Tourism, Directorate of Tourism, Government of Jammu and Kashmir stated that the pending project of the ropeway will be taken up in two phases. In the first phase it will cover the area between Kud to Patnitop and second phase will cover places like Doda and other surrounding areas. "The ropeway project will be developed on PPP format, inviting private companies and agencies for creating infrastructure and technical assistance," she confirmed.
