Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department to organise Ladakh Festival from September 1-15, 2009

Aims to extend tourism season through the Festival

The Department of Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir will organise various sports and adventure activities in Ladakh to coincide with this year’s Ladakh Festival, which will be held next month from the 1st-15th. Releasing the Festival schedule in New Delhi recently Nawang Rigzin Jora, Tourism Minister, Jammu and Kashmir said that the fortnight-long Festival will witness sports like polo, archery, white water rafting along with cultural entertainment of Leh and Ladakh. The Festival will commence with an inaugural function at the Polo Ground in Leh. Jora stated that the aim of the Ladakh Festival is to further extend the tourism season in the Ladakh region. Also present on the occasion were Tanveer Jehan, Tourism Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir and Farooq Shah, Director – Tourism, Kashmir.  

“Ladakh has a short tourist season of around two months.  By organising such festivals in September, we want to extend the season till September.
