| | According to a UNI report, Japan is keen to explore Meghalaya’s potential as a Golf Tourism destination. For this purpose, Hideaki Domichi, Japan Ambassador to India called on DD Lapang, Chief Minister, Meghalaya in New Delhi yesterday. “Japan will organise Indo-Japan Golf Tournament in Shillong which will attract tourists from home and abroad,” said Domichi. The 18-hole Shillong Golf course - Gleneagle of the East - is one among the few linked courses and the third oldest in the world. Domichi emphasised exploiting Meghalaya's tourism potential that can benefit both the countries.
Furthermore, the state government is trying to give tourism a boost by involving big tour operators and travel agents. Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) is also helping the Meghalaya government in developing tourism in the state.
