Karnataka introduces accreditation policy for wellness hospitals

Offers three levels of accreditation

In a bid to strengthen the Medical Tourism industry in Karnataka, the state Tourism Department has introduced an accreditation policy for wellness hospitals. The policy has come into effect from September 1, 2009. The accreditation policy for wellness hospitals will offer three levels – Gold, Silver and Platinum - each will have special guidelines which wellness hospitals will have to follow. To review the applications for the accreditation policy, the state Tourism Department has set up a four-member committee to inspect and provide accreditation to those who have applied as per the policy guidelines. The four-member committee includes medical experts like wellness treatment providers and a member from Karnataka Tourism Forum (KTF).

Speaking with TravelBiz Monitor, K Jothiramalingam, Principal Secretary to Government Tourism Development said, “The four-member committee will take two months to provide accreditation to wellness hospitals that apply for any level of accreditation from the government. The introduction of accreditation policy for wellness hospitals will ensure the quality standards of treatments provided.”
