Kerala govt plans to introduce seaplane service to attract tourists

Asks KTDC to conduct feasibility study on the same

According to a PTI report, Kerala government is planning to introduce seaplane service in the state, in a bid to attract more tourists. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Tourism Minister, Kerala said that considering the distinctive environment condition of the state's backwaters and inland-waterways, Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) has been asked to conduct the study on the possibility of seaplane services.

Balakrishnan mentioned that the state government has no plans to conduct the service directly. It would only provide necessary logistic support to private sector which comes forward with proposals. Kerala's backwaters have been listed in one of the top places worth seeing by National Geography Survey. Issues such as inland fishing, backwater pollution and other environmental factors will be considered before taking a decision on the matter.
