Kerala to conserve and restore Muziris Heritage Site with Rs 80 crore investment

To promote the heritage site as a tourist destination

The Government of Kerala, along with Kerala Tourism, is currently preparing a project report for conservation and restoration of Muziris Heritage Site near Kochi. The Muziris Heritage Site offers historical and archaeological monuments that are nearly 3,000 years old and also insights into many religions. The state government will invest Rs 80 crore for restoration, maintenance and development of the project, which will later be promoted as a heritage site among inbound and domestic travellers.

Speaking with TravelBiz Monitor, M Sivasankar, Director, Kerala Tourism said, “The Muziris Heritage Project is not about conservation and restoration of the site but also creating an experience for travellers once the site is restored. The site has monuments and history related to different eras and we will look at arranging the same so that eventually travellers can experience the evolution of civilisation. We are looking at developing the region in and around Muziris Heritage site so as to engage the local community and offer a rural as well as heritage experience.
