KTM: Building new blocks

With the improving numbers of buyers and sellers at Kerala Travel Mart (KTM), the State is gaining immense attention from the international markets. This year the Mart recorded a growth of 20 -25 per cent in the number of delegates and stalls. Anita Jain gives a brief round up of the Mart along with few experiences of buyers and sellers

Kerala – God’s own country, is known to be one of the finest tourist state in India. The state witnessed a growth of 20 per cent in domestic arrivals and six per cent in international arrivals. With this, it won’t be incorrect to say that the state is turning every possible stone to pump the growth of tourism industry. Kerala tourism is a product of both private and public sector’s initiative. The state tourism board is one of the building blocks for the tourism industry of the state. There are various promotional activities carried out by both private and public sector to promote the state on domestic and international front, one of them being Kerala Travel Mart (KTM). Started in 2000, KTM was organised with the sole aim of bringing the state onto the World Tourism map. Today, the Mart, a biannual event is known to be one of the best tourism marts in Asia.

The fifth edition of Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) kicked off in Kochi, Kerala on September 20th with thew sole aim of promoting the state on international front. This year, the number of stalls went up to 315 from 255 in 2006. The huge potential of growth in tourism has resulted in attracting new players to the industry.
