Las Vegas Sands Corp, one of the largest integrated resort developers in the world, is interested in entering the Indian market. Addressing the media at The Venetian Macao recently, Sheldon G Adelson, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Las Vegas Sands Corp said, “If you are wondering whether I am interested in India as a potential destination for my property, the answer is a definite yes. Unfortunately, I have not been invited by anyone who is interested.”
Adelson has apparently expressed interest in India in the past as well. He revealed that he had approached an official in the Ministry of Tourism in Delhi about five years ago for permission to run an integrated resort with a casino in it and was told to approach each state separately to see who was interested and would give him permission for the property model. However, he never heard back from any of the officials he approached thereafter. |
