Maharashtra govt tasks MTDC with report on tourism destinations

The Maharashtra government has asked the state tourism body, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), to compile a detailed report on all tourism destinations in all the districts in the state, the number of tourists visiting these places, infrastructure and facilities available, and potential for further development. The step comes in the wake of criticism from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) last year for not having a proper system to collect tourist data. On the basis of the report, the state government will decide on allocation of funds for development of these locations, according to a report by The Times of India.
