| | According to a UNI report, a proposal will soon be sent to the Madhya Pradesh (MP) government regarding the development of Markendyay Rishi’s Taposthali (meditation spot) in the state as a tourist spot. The spot lies near Kundarikalan village in Satna district of MP and is the confluence of the Mahanadi and Son Rivers. Amitabh Tiwari, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, who is associated with a scheme to develop this spot as Green Valley Village said efforts will be made to revamp the old temples and ghats to attract devotees and tourists to the spot.
Legend has it that Markendyay Rishi meditated at Taposthali for 11,000 years. It is also believed that Lord Rama performed the last rites of his father Dashrath there. Markendyay Rishi's temple remains are still found in the caves of hilly forests sprawled over 10,000 square feet hectare.
