A travel segment that has remained unaffected in the ongoing global economic slowdown is Medical Tourism. Estimates show that a good number of overseas travellers came to India in search of medical and wellness treatments from countries as far as the UK and the USA in the last one year. India is really catching up with major Medical Tourism destinations like Singapore and Thailand, if figures are to be believed. As per a study by research group, Deloitte, there has been significant increase in number of medical and wellness travellers to India from developed countries like USA and UK in the last few years. The report also shows a change in trends as far as traditional markets for Medical Tourism vis-à-vis Indian health care sector. While West Asia remained major source market for Medical Tourism for India in the early years of the decade, Indian healthcare facilities have started catching the eyeballs of developed markets due to its clear superiority over key competitors in terms of the wide spectrum of treatments being offered by Indian hospitals.  

Indian health care sector has also undergone a sea change in the past decade.
