Mexico launches ten new routes, targets fifth position for tourist arrivals in five years

Targets VFR traffic travelling to USA from Indian market

Mexico which stands at the tenth position for tourist arrivals from across the world, with close to 22 million tourist arrivals, is targeting fifth position in the world in the next five years with approximately 50 million tourist arrivals.

During her recent visit to India, Gloria Guevara, Minister of Tourism, Mexico met airline officials of Air India and Jet Airways to seek opportunities to connect India with Mexico through either direct connectivity or code share agreements with carriers in Mexico. The country is targeting VFR traffic travelling to the USA as their target audience from India.

“Indian travellers with valid USA Visa will be permitted to enter Mexico and we are also looking at easing the availability of Mexico Visa in less than 24 hours. For the Indian market, we are looking at joint promotions with the trade and also conducting familiarisation trips to educate the trade about the product offerings,” explained Guevara.
