MoT assesses NCR region to have 40,000 rooms before Commonwealth Games 2010

According to a PIB release, Saugata Roy, Minister of State Urban Development in a reply in the Rajya Sabha recently said that the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) has assessed that approximately 40,000 rooms under various categories will be developed in the National Capital Region (NCR) to meet the demand of the Commonwealth Games 2010. With the availability of rooms from existing and new hotels, guest houses, bed and breakfast establishments, as well as Delhi Development Authority (DDA) flats will be met.

The Master Plan for Delhi-2021 provided substantially relaxed norms for construction of guest houses in terms of road width, plot size and permissible area to increase availability of accommodation. Based on the information provided by the Government of Haryana, it has been assessed that a total of 6,632 rooms will be available out of new hotel projects in the NCR of Haryana.

The Master Plan for Delhi-2021 was amended to increase the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) for hotels from 150 to 225 excluding those hotels in Lutyens Bungalow Zone, Civil Lines Bungalow Area and existing on heritage structures to augment the availability of hotel accommodation.
