According to a PTI report, Nepal is set to promote Spa Tourism in order to attract more tourists and increase the length of visitor’s stay, after being popular as an Adventure and Ecotourism destination. Prakash Shrestha, Former President, Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) said that although there are only seven international standard spa-facilities operating currently in Kathmandu, there is lot of scope for spa and wellness business. He pointed out that spa business has USD 64.8 billion global market and in the Asia Pacific region it earns USD 11.4 billion, therefore Nepal should concentrate on this business to get more benefit from the tourism sector.
Spa and Wellness Association of Nepal (SWAN) in collaboration with HAN, will host the first international seminar on spa and wellness in the Himalayan Kingdom on May 7, 2009 with a view to explore the untapped opportunities of spa business. Around six internationally renowned spa experts will deliver lectures highlighting different aspects of spa and wellness business. Currently, there are four luxurious hotels in Kathmandu including Shangri La, Hyatt, Regency and Fulbari Hotel which provide spa facilities. |
