Jaipur Highway, Pushkar Lake
The National Highway 8 is a 1,375 kms long major highway of India which traverses 635 kms in Rajasthan before reaching Mumbai in Maharashtra from Delhi. The ambitious six lane-ing of the highway has started showing results in the stretch between Jaipur and Ajmer where work is almost completed. In sharp contrast to the fine tuning of this sector of approach to Pushkar- the venue for India’s major annual desert festival, another ambitious project of the government is drawing flak for its tardy progress. The holy lake of Pushkar, around which the entire folk lore and spiritual significance of the temple town is built, has all but dried up with no chance of it being replenished before this years’ festival.
