Is ban the only solution?
Don’t like it, ban it! This seems to be the ready and handy solution to any problem in India. It’s not just about the recent knee-jerk reaction of the Delhi government to ban radio taxi service provider, Uber following the alleged rape of a woman by its cab driver, India has a long history of putting blanket bans and the frequency has increased alarmingly in recent years. A Minister in Goa called for a ban in August this year on wearing bikinis at public beaches in the state, while the Kerala government banned bars in the state, except those operating in five-star and heritage hotels. The latest update on the ban on bars is that the Kerala government is constituting committees to study the impact of this new liquor policy.
