Potential freedom movement sites to be harnessed for developing tourism in Orissa

According to a PTI report, in order to give a fillip to the tourism sector in Orissa, potential important heritage sites linked to the freedom movement and activities of eminent freedom fighters will be harnessed in the state. While addressing a seminar titled ‘Necessities and possibilities of freedom movement-linked tourism in Orissa’ recently, Debi Prasad Mishra, Tourism Minister, Orissa said that ‘Freedom Movement Tourism’ will be one of the components in the state’s new proposed Tourism Policy which will come up during the current year. “There are a number of freedom movement linked historic places in Orissa. The potential of historic places and freedom fighters can be harnessed for development of tourism sector in the state,” added Mishra.

Mishra informed that the draft for this purpose has already been prepared and has been linked to at least nine different departments of the state government. Before framing the policy, the matter will be discussed with other departments and stakeholders. Stating that important heritage sites linked to the national freedom movement can be developed as tourist destinations,
