| | The Department of Tourism (DoT), Punjab will promote the famous Gobindgarh Fort in Amritsar as a national monument and tourist attraction. The fort was formally handed over last week by the army to the civil administration. However, certain portion of the fort will continue to remain under the jurisdiction of the army and the public will be denied access to this area.
The Department of Tourism has sent a list of other heritage properties located across the state to Infrastructure Leasing and Finance Services (ILFS), a technical consultant based in Chandigarh to prepare Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model to convert these monuments into tourist sites.
Speaking with TravelBiz Monitor, Surinder Bajaj, Deputy Director, Department of Tourism (DoT), Punjab, said that their first priority will be to convert Gobindgarh Fort into a national monument and promote it as a tourism attraction. He informed that the Department is also seeking financial assistance from the centre for development of Gobindgarh Fort.
