Effective March 30, 2009, Qatar Airways will launch its third gateway city in the US, with Houston. The airline will operate a daily non-stop service between Doha and Houston, which will be covered under just 17 hours flying time with the Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft.
With 58 flights operating out of India connecting nine cities, Qatar Airways is now looking at augmenting the services from India for 2009. This year will see the airline add two more routes i.e. Amritsar and Goa (2009-10). This will be effective the Northern Winter 2009 season bringing its India route count to 11 cities. By the end of 2009, the airline will also make its foray into the Australian market with non-stop flights from Doha to both Sydney and Melbourne.
Commenting on the launch, Qatar Airways Regional Manager India, Naveen Chawla said: “Qatar Airways’ India operations accounts for approximately 15 per cent of our capacity and is among the most successful in our international network, with the airline having virtually doubled capacity between India and Qatar over the past three years.” |
