Railway Budget 2010-11 proposes SMS alerts and induction of e-ticket based mobile vans

While presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11 in Parliament today, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee proposed for SMS updates of reservation status and train schedules along with updates regarding the movement of wagons to freight customers. This initiative has been proposed with the intention of improving customer satisfaction. Banerjee also made provisions to expand the reach of reservation centres and Internet ticket booking facilities (at strategic locations/places) within the country.

Furthermore, in order to expand the reach of mobile ticketing van - Mushkil Aasan, Banerjee proposed to induct e-ticket based mobile vans for issuing reservation tickets in government medical college hospitals, high courts, districts courts, university campuses, IT hubs, IITs and IIMs. Banerjee also proposed to open ticket centres at district headquarters and village panchayats with infrastructure support from local government/semi government authorities and private organisations.
