Singapore Airlines woos travel trade with incentives to withdraw boycott decision

Trade associations warn members against accepting incentives

Singapore Airlines (SQ), which has been hit by the withdrawal of support by the travel trade, is now offering incentive packages to select travel agents, to woo them to sell its tickets and withdraw their (travel agents’) decision of boycotting the airline. Anoop Kanuga, Western Region Chairman, TAAI informed that SQ is offering target-based incentive packages to about 40-50 travel agents and tour operators across India. “Starting from Mumbai, the carrier is targeting to offer the incentive package to corporate travel operators, multi-national operators and consolidators. The intention of SQ is to break the unity of travel trade members by offering these packages. But we have sent out mailers to all our members not to accept the deal offered by SQ and continue to boycott the airline with other associations,” he added.

Echoing similar sentiments, Ajay Prakash, General Secretary, TAFI said, “This is a desperate measure taken by the carrier to break the unity of all trade associations. But we have announced that whoever will support or accept these kinds of deals from the airlines will not be supported by a majority of travel trade members.
