Singaporeans top in availing of GoI’s Visa-on-Arrival scheme from January – May 2010

According to a PIB release, as a facilitative measure to attract more foreign tourists to India, the Government of India (GoI) had launched the Visa-on-Arrival (VoA) scheme for citizens of five countries- Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore visiting India for tourism purposes from January 2010. During the period January – May 2010, a total number of 2,750 VoAs were issued under this scheme.

The number of Visas issued under this scheme, during January-May 2010 for nationals of the five countries were: Singapore (884), Finland (736), New Zealand (660), Japan (453) and Luxembourg (17).

Total number of VoAs issued during May 2010 were 405 with country wise breakup as Finland (81), Japan (67), New Zealand (139), Singapore (116) and Luxemburg (two).

During the five month period of January–May, 2010, the maximum number of VoAs were issued at Delhi Airport (1491), followed by Mumbai (600), Chennai (509) and Kolkata (150).
