STDC to introduce skill development programme soon to promote Village Tourism in the state

The Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) is planning to introduce skill development programme soon for the locals, in a bid to promote Village Tourism in the state. This decision has been taken as the concept of Village Tourism has become popular among tourists in Sikkim.  

Elaborating on the same, Amit Kapil Chettri, Assistant General Manager, STDC said, “STDC has decided to introduce skill development programme under capacity building process. For the same, STDC will set up training centres for the hospitality sector wherein locals irrespective of age and qualification will be provided with specialised training in food and beverage and housekeeping. Under this project, hygiene and quality food will be given priority. After completing the six months training programme, candidates will be placed at various hotels and restaurants and other private companies. The aim of the skill development programme is to serve hygienic and quality food to tourists.” Chettri added that STDC is planning to market the Village Tourism concept through brochures, websites and by participating in various trade fairs held at national level.
