The Tamil Nadu Tourism will introduce a high-speed boat at Mudaliarkuppan Rain Drop Boat House for boat racing to be held today in association with Madras Boat Club. According to a report in Times of India (TOI), yesterday, N Suresh Rajan, Tourism Minister, Tamil Nadu said that the boat that can cruise at a speed of 100 km per hour is being introduced after the department received tremendous response from tourists at ten boat houses in the state.
“We have received good response for adventure sports, especially after we introduced kayaks at the boat houses recently. We also expect the boat racing to generate interest among residents and tourists to visit boat houses more frequently,” stated Rajan. The boat houses at Muttukadu, Mudaliarkuppam, Yercaud, Pitchavaram, Kodaikanal, Ooty, Pykara and Kuttralam have generated revenue of Rs 772.13 lakh till December 2008, which is 26 per cent more than the revenue for 2007. Among the boat houses, Mudaliarkuppam boat house, which has 41 boats, registered a 157 per cent increase in revenue. “This reflects the interest shown by the tourists.
