After having a representative office in India for ten years, Tourism Australia (TA) unveiled its tourism office in Mumbai. Martin Ferguson, Minister of Tourism, Australia announced the opening of TA office today in Mumbai. The prime focus for opening its own office in India was to tap the increasing opportunities in Indian tourism sector. Maggie White, General Manager – South East Asia and Gulf Countries, Tourism Australia said, “The Mumbai office will act as a point of contact for the Indian travel trade to sell Australia. It will also provide in depth about Australia's leisure and business destinations.”
TA has turned its attention to India as a potential source of tourist arrivals with predictions that within a decade more than 5,00,000 Indian tourists a year will visit Australia. In past five years, the number of Indians visiting Australia has grown by more than 20 per cent a year swelling from 45,593 (2003) to 95,200 (2007). |
