Trade associations meet in Mumbai to decide ‘plan of action’ post DGCA order on reinstating agency commissions

Officials of various travel trade associations (TAAI, TAFI, IAAI, IATO, ADTOI and ETAA) met this afternoon in Mumbai to decide the ‘plan of action’ post the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) order asking airlines to re-instate agency commissions to all IATA-accredited travel agents. At the meeting it was decided that the first and immediate step was to send out an official communication to all airlines to start a dialogue on the issue.

The DGCA order passed on March 11, 2010 in favour of agents on the zero commission issue left the commercial aspect of the actual commission percentage to be decided mutually by airlines and agents. IAAI had sent a notice to all 16 airlines following zero commission on March 27, 2010 to pay five per cent on gross as an interim arrangement. Rajji Rai, President, TAAI said, “We have received no official response from the 16 zero commission airlines after the DGCA order.” He further added, “We will approach all airlines in a manner which will help us reach an amicable solution. There will be no agitation or any kind of demonstration this time.
