Following the failure of negotiations with Singapore Airlines with regards to restoration of agency commissions, travel trade associations have declared withdrawal of support to the carrier effective December 29. Associations like TAAI, TAFI, ADTOI, IAAI and ETAA have taken the decision to boycott the Airline indefinitely.
Confirming the statement, Rajji Rai, President, TAAI said, “We are going to send out a strong message to every foreign carrier (currently working on zero commissions) to either pay us commissions or Quit India. If the national legacy carriers have agreed upon the decision, the foreign carriers should follow suit immediately.”
Explaining the reason for demanding five per cent agency commission on the gross fare for foreign carriers, Ajay Prakash, General Secretary, TAFI said, “Air India, Kingfisher and Jet Airways mostly operate on the domestic front, thus we asked for three per cent commission on the gross fare on both international and domestic routes. But issuing tickets on international routes with international carriers requires more services by travel agents (passport, Visas, foreign currency, insurance etc,) than on the domestic sector, |
