Uniglobe Travel South Asia’s annual regional conference, which was scheduled for August 15 – 17, 2008 in either Bangkok or in India, has now been postponed for the next year either January or August. The reason behind the postponement is the timing of the event. It would have coincided with the timeframe leading up to the zero per cent commission environment and the whole purpose to hold a conference for the agents would be defeated.
Talking to TravelBiz Monitor, Ritika Modi, Regional President, Uniglobe Travel (South Asia) Pvt. Ltd., offered, “We have postponed the conference to January or August 2009. With the zero per cent commission environment in India, we analysed that it was best to plan it for the next year. Agents need to focus on the new business models and implement the Service Fee model to maintain flow of revenue. With the agents busy in refocusing direction, and other important issues surrounding them, the conference has been rescheduled for next year.” She further added that January is a heavy season for inbound in India and the rates are pretty high, so ideally a long weekend in August will be picked for the conference. |
