According to a report in Times of India, with an aim to develop Nagpur as a major Ecotourism centre, Vilas Muttemwar, MP, Nagpur, in a letter drafted recently to Kumari Selja, Union Minister for Tourism stated that Nagpur and the Vidarbha region has many historical sites and places of tourist interest which have been neglected, while a number of tiger reserves around Nagpur can be promoted as the gateway to the tiger land.
In the letter, Muttemwar also stated that tourism is the biggest industry and the fastest growing segment is Wildlife and Adventure Tourism. He pointed out that Tadoba Andhari, Pench, Nagzira, Melghat, Navegaon and Bor wildlife sanctuaries are situated 70 to 150 kms from Nagpur. The famous Kanha, Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh around 250 km away and Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve also in Madhya Pradesh are both easily accessible from Nagpur. |
