The Uttar Pradesh (UP) tourism department is once again going to organise the much-awaited Ganga Water Rally in November this year. With this, the department will promote Adventure Tourism in the city, which has been neglected for the past few years and to bring back the city onto the global map. Detailing about the proposed rally, Amit Srivastava, Regional Tourist Officer, Allahabad said that Ganga Water Rally will be organised for three days from November 28- 30, 2009. This was decided in the meeting under the chairmanship of Avinash Awasthi, Secretary/Director General (tourism), Uttar Pradesh government. The last Ganga Water rally was organised in the year 2002.
The main purpose of organising the rally is to explore scenic beauty along river Ganga with historical ghats on its bank and develop Adventure Tourism which has the potential to attract foreign tourists. According to a report in Times of India, the participants will use kayaks, canoes or row boats. Ganga Water Rally is the first major water sporting event of its kind in the state. Here, the adventurous people will be taken down the Ganga from Allahabad to Varanasi through Mirzapur and Chunar. |
