Visit Golden Maharashtra: Charting new strategies for tourism growth

'Visit Golden Maharashtra Year,' conceived by Maharashtra Economic Development Council and supported by the state govt. and Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation started with a two-day business conference. Visit Golden Maharashtra,’ the year long initiative is aimed at highlighting the state’s tourism potential and development of requisite infrastructure. The first event of the initiative was a two-day business conference, which was inaugurated by Dr Vijay Kumar Gavit, Minister of Tourism, Medical Education and Horticulture, Govt. of Maharashtra (GoM) on April 20, 2010 at Y.B Chavan Auditorium, Mumbai. During his speech at the inaugural session, Gavit informed that the government will undertake renovation of various tourist sites, create information centres at tourist locations and encourage participation from the private entrepreneurs for development of tourism infrastructure in the state. He also stated that the government is in the process of finalising a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the forest department to boost Wildlife Tourism in the state.

At the inauguration, attended by A B Kulkarni, Pr. Sec. Tourism, GoM, Dr. Avinash Dhakne, MD, MTDC and large number of travel and hospitality association heads, CEO’s and decision makers from the industry, Gavit released the directory of Maharashtra Tour Organisers Association.
