| | Winter tourism has existed in India since the initial growth phase of tourism in India. Today, the ones marketing the concept of ‘Winter Tourism’ highlight it under winter festivals, winter adventure sports and beautiful winter locations. The states promoting this concept are Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim. But to promote this concept many challenges need to be met along with implementation of new strategies, various products and activities also need to be sold aggressively in the market.
Winter destinations Jammu and Kashmir has everything to offer from beautiful mountains to striking lakes. Gulmarg is the most popular and accessible winter destination (46 kms from Srinagar accessible by direct flight from Mumbai, Jammu and Delhi). It is also India’s most visited ski resort. Snow on the slopes of Gulmarg is considered as one of the finest for skiing.
