World's first food hotel to open in Germany by 2010

The world’s first food hotel will be launched in Neuwied town, South of Cologne in Germany by early 2010. The 100 room hotel will have a supermarket and training supermarket. The Food Hotel, Neuwied is owned by the Federal Association of the Germany Retail Grocery Trade and the supermarket will be run by 'Lebensmittel Sachschule' school.

According to Michael Gerling, Chief Executive, BVL-Federal Association, Germany Retail Grocery Trade, “This themed hotel will serve as a training and education site for the entire food sector of Germany and will be designed like a modern supermarket. The hotel will be a platform to promote the retail and manufacturing food business in Germany.” Every room is designed individually by a leading food retailer or manufacturer.
