CII launches task force on tourism in southern India to bring synergy in the sector

The Confederation of Indian Industry, southern region, has launched a task force to focus on tourism and related sectors. The task force is chaired by Thomas John Muthoot, chairman of Muthoot FinCorp Ltd, and co-chaired by Ligi George, MD of Madras Suspensions Ltd.

The objective of the task force is to bring together all the stakeholders engaged in the tourism ecosystem on a unified approach to work for the revival of this sector in the southern region. It has members representing all the six southern states and will work to be a common voice with state governments and with the Centre in putting forward recommendations and policy advocacy measures that will positively impact the sector in the short and the long term.

Interactions with government officials and providing them with regular feedback on the requests by the industry will form a key feature of this task force, apart from organizing activities and events to deliberate on the various aspects impacting the sector, especially during and in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We wish to bring together all the associations and bodies that have been doing great work across the region and listen to their concern, share solutions and best practices, learn from each other and look at opportunities to best minimize the impact of the pandemic on livelihood” said John Muthoot.

A regional tourism summit will also be organized at the end at the end of the year to implement a roadmap towards the revival and growth of the sector on all fronts.

“Tourism is a key component of south India’s culture and economic progress and we will work towards enhancing it in all forms by following the protocols of the government and by learning, networking and progressing together,” said Ligi. (Source TOI)
